Which Way Did They Go?
Bret, Eric and I arrived in Maupin this morning at six o' clock kinda like a couple of guys showing up for a party that was already over. We had hoped to find some silvery steelies slashing at stoneflies, but instead we found one wimpy whitefish, which we weleased.... er, uh I mean relseased. Bret was the mighty champion of the day, hauling in the 10 inch whitie that didn't even get as much as a glance from the rest of us. We were there for vicious hook sets and screaming reels. We did see two fish (2!) rise, and I think they both said something like, "neaner neaner neaner!" Turns out the fish have pretty well passed over Shearers Falls and are making their way toward the spawning grounds below the dam in Warmsprings. That section of the river should start to put on a show very soon. Will we be there? You bet your booty we will. Stay tuned. Steelhead season isn't over yet. Tight Lines!

I appreciate your acknowledgement of the fact that I was indeed the "mighty champion" of the day. However, my whitefish that was deemed unworthy of your glance was in fact at least 14 inches, not 10. Still no big deal, but as far as whitefish are concerned, it was a beauty. Hey, when one little fish is all you get, you've got to play it up for all it's worth, right? May our next trip yield a bounteous harvest of monstrous steelhead for us all.
Bret
Amen to that, brother.
